True Hawaiian Koa wood can best be compared to walnut in terms of density. Koa combines mid-range characteristic of mahogany with the top end of maple. As a Koa instrument is played, it will open up and reveal more of the mid-range to reveal a more resonant tone than when first played after assembly.
